Sorry to hear that. Maybe the turbo does have something to do with it. There was only one difference I found with my throttle. My prop was set to allow the engine to reach a maximum of 5500RPM at max throttle. After I installed the balance tube, the engine would reach max RPM at about 95% throttle. The last 5% would not give me any more RPM. I experienced no loss in power though, since I was still getting the 5500RPM. Just reached full power at 95% throttle. Throttle advance was smooth throughout.
One thing you might try is pinching the rubber hose a little bit with a clamp and see if you notice any improvement. If you have to restrict it a lot though, you may be just as well off with the factory tube. Just guessing here but you might be right about the location. Can't imagine why though, some balance tubes are located on the very opposite end of the manifold from the carbs.
Hate that you did all that work with no results. Maybe it will work on your friends plane.

The engine wouldn't reach enough power to get the plane off the ground seemed to be worse under boost Ive pulled the manifolds back off but didn't think to pinch off the hose any clues on why it didn't work.

I can't imagine what the cause is. I thought there might be some difference with the turbocharger but I didn't expect anyything like that. Mine is just humming right along.
Sounds like something else is going on besides just the balance tube. It will be interesting to see if the situation goes back to normal when you change the manifolds back. Talked last night to a couple of buddies of mine who build racing engines and explained the situation to them and they are puzzled also. They say that the worst that should have happened is that some minor throttle changes would have been necessary.
If it does immediately return to normal when you change the manifolds back, let me know and I'll do a little more research.

Still busy trying to extract manifolds off my mates 912 the rubber mounts have all seized I was wondering if the air box pressure parameters have changed and the TCU is dumping boost as its seems as though there is like a lag in the engine, anyway I will keep you posted
