Alan,
one thing I might add. I bought two 1" rubber stoppers and drilled them in the center to accept a hose barb, and attached them to my balance gauges. Now when I do a carb sync, I just loosen the lower hose clamps on the balance tube, pull the tube off hoses and all, and then stick the plugs in the vertical 1" tubes. It is actually easier than with the old balance tube.

I would GUESS that the Man pressure at WOT will be higher( less vacuum). Do you have a vacuum gauge fitted?

You might be right. Since the engine ran so smoothly from idle right up to my max RPM, I haven't really investigated the issue. I think I will look into it though. by all rights, the manifold pressure should be higher as you say.
Other thing I need to try is to run the engine at the 100% WOT setting for a few minutes even though it starts missing and check the plugs and EGTs to see if it is going rich or lean once it passes that sweet spot. Might even need rejetting now that the airflow has changed.
Any other ideas you might have would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Bill
The way I see it is at WOT there is less vacuum as the balance pipe will allow a large airflow through it. This will mean that it will go slightly leaner, I think.
If you try opening the "choke" at full power, it should pick up the revs. Its worth a try to see what happens.
I'm obviously guessing but would be interested to see what happens.
