5-year Rubber Replacement

    Part number 15-08189 on CPS website is described as "this rubber replacement kit for the Rotax 912 engine furnishes the parts most commonly needed for the 5 year service requirement." The cost is $955.36

    The 1" (25mm) coolant can be purchased locally. I use Gates, but Dayco is good to. The 1/4", 5/16" or 3/8" fuel hose can be purchased locally to. I use Gates Barricade hose. It is good with any ethanol concentration you use and like the old days is not permeable. I don't use fuel injection hose for the carb engines. I use what some call fuel vapor hose or carburetor hose. It is rated to 50 psi which is plenty for the carb engines. I like it because it will give a little going over fittings and fuel injection hose going over some fittings scrape the inner hose liner because it has no give. The 3 service centers in the US all sell different 13mm (1/2") oil hose. I buy mine from CPS. The 17mm coolant hose on top and the two under each cylinder have no US equivalents and I would highly recommend you do not use anything, but the 17mm coolant hose from a service center. The other parts are the same from the service centers. i.e. carb diaphragms, rubber carb sockets and "O" ring, 66mm tube, 17mm - 90 degree coolant tube, possibly a fuel pump, ect....
    All your fuel and oil hoses should be in fire sleeve. You will need rubber engine mounts to.

    I have heard that the 5-year rubber replacement is no longer required.


    I'm having several AMP's tell me the 5 year rubber requirement is optional. Where is this documented and/or where is this 'optional' opinion coming from? I get it that the Line Man says required, but where are people getting the optional opinion from? I want to see the documentation that suggests it's only recommended.

    The problem with A&P's is they usually aren't up on all the light aircraft regulations.
    First we need to know what type and or certification the plane is in? If it was taken from an SLSA to an ELSA many fail to read their new operating limitations which usually says you must comply with all time limited parts from the MFG's. Is it amateur built? ect...

    If you have any doubt call the FAA in Oklahoma if you live in the US. They will be the ones that violate you and the mechanic for any failed maint. or incidents.

    It is in the Rotax Line Maint. manual under section 2. This will also be tied to your aircraft POH. So do a good research before you listen to an A&P.
