5-year Rubber Replacement

Has anyone replaced the oil and/or fuel lines with stainless steel braided Teflon (PTFE)? Teflon is impervious to gas, oil, ethanol, even 100% alcohol, and according to FAA-8083-30_Ch07, has unlimited shelf and service life. The question assumes the use of correct hose termination and fittings.

I have been reading through the numerous '5-year rubber' postings and will probably simply use Rotax parts for this year's 5-year replacement exercise. But I thought I would at least ask the question.

    We just secured an LOA from Evektor to use FireSleeve on our Rotax 912ULS (Evektor SportStar S/LSA)

    Hi Dennis,

    There is a company that can be found on the Van's RV12 website. Just Teflon fuel lines would cost around $575 and oil lines maybe half to as much depending on your plane. I can replace a lot of fuel lines and oil lines for the next 15-20 years for that.

    I looked into them and found the price to be about the same the problem is teflon in braided stainless steel can take a lot of pressure but the suction line may collapse at high temperatures on the suction side I.E. maybe ending up with a loss of oil pressure.

    I don't know. You can replace fuel hose for $1.30 a ft. Teflon and or braided is more expensive.

    Also,
    although the better hose may last 20 years, it does not change the fact that you have to replace every 5 years to be in compliance with Rotax Maintenance manuals. So unless it "came from the top" ie Rotax did it in the factory and reset the manuals I do not think the effort is worth it.

    Roger will know but I do not think there are premature failures (ie less than 5 years) if the install is done properly. I do know that fire covers on fuel lines are required under LSA ASTM.
