Hello see this post and was wondering if you could tell me the year of my Rotax 582 sn # 5430421

Thank you for your rapid reply to my question about the manufacture date of 503 S.N.'s 4839407 and 5171940 (#18059). It is interesting to note that these two engines were so far apart as far as serial number was concerned but actually manufactured only about 51 days apart. Any idea why this is the case? I'm guessing that it may have something to do with separate serial number sequences for different configurations? Or was there something drastically different about the later manufacture/serial example?

Thanks in advance for any comments or clarification ...

In most factories that manufacture a variety of engines, serial production is done in batches of different engine types. I would expect that in the two months between your first 503 engine and your second 503 engine, there were production runs of several other engine types, which used up the intervening serial numbers...

Ah Hah! That makes sense, except possibly for the fact that if that is the case then they would have had to manufacture something like 332,533 engines over that 51 days, which is an astonishing production rate of a little over 6,520 engines (of any sort) per day!
