Well thats hard to pin down: Every aluminum box ignition (pre 1990) that we have tested does not have retard but according to the overhaul manual all modules should have this feature.
Any ignition mounted on top of the engine will have a retard function. This type of ignition was introduced Aug 1992.
Strangely enough, engines with the old aluminum box ignition did not seem to have any starting issues. They sure had corrosion and wiring confusion issues!
