I measured the resistor on the rear (clean) side and it reads 18OHM. So it needs replacing I guess?

Diodes looks fine, replace resistor, cleanup board, look for another damages and try turn it on. I suggest you to apply 1A or less fuse for initial testing. If something else is broken you will burn fuse not electronics.

After repair check for heating and stable work then plug 3A fuse.

Sounds like a good plan, wilco. Seems like some of you have a lot ot Rotax-Troubleshooting experience, this doesn't really belong to this topic BUT: in the same reverse connecting process..my starter now doesn't have enough power to turn the engine properly. I have to aid it by hand,,then engine starts imm., Sterter just wont turn it through the top of compression with enough momentum. I've opened it and it looks fine, cleaned the brbbushes and rotor contacts...contacted it directly to Battery(bypassing solenoid) ..tono effect..still same prob. Any clues?

Starter can't be damaged in case of reverse polarity i think. You tried to run engine when battery was bad connected? If not the starter never see reversed polarity.
Maybe battery is broken? Try another.
