912 ULS vacuum pump

I am considering fitting a vacuum pump kit to my 912 ULS (year 2002, no slipper clutch version). Will the pump just bolt on ready to go or does there have to be something else fitted inside the gearbox to drive it? I've vaguely heard about vacuum pump drive gear but don't know if this is something that is fitted to all gearboxes as standard, fitted to some versions only, fitted as an optional extra etc??
If it is not standard, how can I tell if it is included in mine or not and if not, what is involved in fitting it?

    Rotax has a kit part number 881690.
    You need to remove the gearbox to install the drive kit. Its a pretty easy job if you are trained for gearbox work and have the tools. Gear #15 is already installed on the propshaft. You have to press in the ball bearing, needle bearing and seal. Rotax has special tools for this so if you don't have the tools or training you will be better off having an iRMT do the work.

    Also, personally I would never recommend a dry vac pump; they are failure prone, add extra plumbing and heavy (compared to installing electric instruments and even more so compared to the new glass panels)
    When they do fail they induce a cloud of carbon dust into the vacuum system; this is drawn into the system plumbing as it is still under vacuum for a short time. If you don't clean out every hose, fitting, regulator and instrument very thoroughly you will fail the replacement pump because it will suck in this contamination.

    Rob, thank you very much for your information. Actually your first post pretty well convinced me to do it and then your second one has certainly convinced me not to.....!
    I have a standard "6 pack" instrument panel but it's all electrically driven from one source. I was just looking at ways of developing a better set up to have the relevant instruments driven by two independent sources for redundancy purposes. Think I'll keep it all electric but work out some other source of back up.

    What about the little Dynon D2 pocket panel as back up EFIS?
    I believe it has its own battery back up.

    Thanks again Rob, I will certainly take a close look at that. Something like that would indeed be far simpler and better than messing about with Ark-like technology like vac systems and replacement gyros etc!
