Muffler location

I have an old version of the 912ULS s/n 4428716 that I'm installing on my 612 Hds zenair. It's seem to me that it would be more convenient if the muffler was in the back of the engine like the new 912 versions. it is actually installed in front. I need some space for the radiator and oil cooler in front. My first question is :it possible to install the muffler in the back of the engine? And is it possible if I use only the new kit of exhaust pipe like parts number 973010, 973020, 973030 and 973040? Does I need to change also the muffler?
