92' 80 HP 912UL static rpm

I have an old rotax 912ul 80hp.

Is pitching it for 5300 rpm on the ground a good place to start?

I have some old notes from my grandfather that say:

5100 max
4800 cruise
3000 final
2000 taxi

Did the older rotax motors have lower RPMs?

Try around 4700 rpm static for a ground adjustable prop. Then go fly it and see what the wide open throttle rpm is in flat and level flight. Then make your final adjustment. 5300 rpm static will put you over 5800 max rpm at WOT in level flight..

5100 max,,,,,This is way too low for a WOT rpm and can cause engine issues. A good balanced rpm for climb, cruise, fuel economy and engine temps is right around 5600-5650.

4800 cruise,,,, This again is too low. You shouldn't cruise all the time in the 4K's. try 5100-5400. Many are around 5100-5200 for sustained cruise.

These last two are okay.
3000 final
2000 taxi
