How about using octane booster? Our fuel is 91 non ethanol but I saw this week that one station changed it to 90. My kitfox SLSA says minimum 92 octane what is my best option?
Roger states a problem with detonation but there are also issues with the 100LL and the lead build up.
Has rotax ever studied the octane boosters?
I am fairly new to the Rotax. I have a 912ULS in my RV12. My question is: How do I know if I have a clutch in the reduction gear? If anyone can help I would appreciate it. Thanks Rod
We have a produced a video which includes a procedure for checking whether or not your engine is equipped with the clutch, see www.rotax-owner.com/en/videos-topmenu/el...60-friction-torque29
Hello friends. I just opened a new fuel topic - 912 100hp fuel strategy - but let me share results of my little research here as well:
- 90 octane fuel can be made 91 by adding 10% of 100ll
- fuel can be lower by 1 octane for each 1000 ft of density altitude
- any fuel will lose octane with age because they boost octane by adding lighter fractions such as butane (note that premium fuel often ages at gas stations as fewer people buy it)
- premium alcohol fuel is typically made from 87 octane pure gas. If alcohol is removed due to evaporation or water absorption, octane will drop fast
- ideally one wants 93 octane real gas to allow for ageing.
I personally used 93 octane alcohol with marine additives and 90 octane pure gas with or without 10% 100ll depending on altitude.
I entertain a thought to always filling one tank (I have four) with 100ll and use it for take-offs and landings only, while whatever else I can get for cruise.
