I consider buying airplane with Rotax 912 ULS-2, serno 4428646, constructed 2003.

1. But what denotes "-2"? Is a ULS or a ULSFR? Makes a big difference for this serial number, since it will be either over or under the extended TBO according to SB-912-041UL R2.

2. What is the actual quality/parts difference between these engines?

3. Engine will be over 12 years in any event. In Sweden, for "Experimental" registry airplanes, these engines are allowed to run beyond the 10 or 12 year calendar TBO, if they meet "normal" wear criteria, including corrosion inspection every five years. What is anyones comment on this, please?

Hi Carl,
4428646 is a 912ULS (not a ULSFR) It was made October 2002.
1- the -2 signifies it has a version 2 propeller shaft for a fixed pitch prop.
2-No difference between the ULS and ULSFR (except the operators manual limits the ULSFR RPM to 5500 to de-rate the power. To meet the old French microlight standards)
3- No problem going on-condition, just put a program in place and monitor the engine: Oil analysis, compression tests, cutting/inspecting oil filter, power/RPM test
