As a point of interest, I had a Rotax/Ducati VR fail after about 400 hours. It was mounted in the cockpit with vent air blowing on it. I was upset but replaced it in the same location with a new Rotax/Ducati VR. That one has been running trouble free for 1000 hours now. Go figure!
My set-up is the same as James' above. About 150 hours to failure on my first firewall-mounted Ducati and it's Ducati inside-mounted replacement is now still going strong at 1,400 hours. Go figure....I also carry a spare.
B and C is the latest rage but not a lot of data out yet, so you’re part of the experiment. I’ve had good luck with Ducati longevity over the years by putting a dab of solder on the reg rectifier connector pins’ A/C wires, as they have a tendency to vibrate out of their crimps and start the over voltage chain.
