apologies for the slow reply I wanted to gather some data first.
Regarding hot air entering the engine. Naturally cooler air would be better.
I have just done some flights with a dongle and laptop. In the worst case scenario (low airspeed full power climb) the airbox temperature was 12 deg C hotter that the OAT (under wing) air temperature. Feeding that data into a standard "dyno correction" for 100 hp means that the loss is about 4 hp. Normally about 8 degrees so 3 hp.
Therefore of course a design which reduces this loss is a great idea. Unfortunately as I have a factory built S-LSA I cannot make major changes like that.
