I did as you described. I found the fault it was a broken wire where the trigger coils attach to the lower module. I spliced it and it is running good now.
Well all. I finished the plane and flew 5 hours on it and it was running very smooth. Then I started to get an excessive mag drop. It would run terrible on either mag and one mag did not always ground out (I could tell it wanted to keep running as I cut both mag switches-I tested the circuit to the switches and it is fine). Ran awfully rough on either mag. I hooked up a timing light to each spark plug wire, they all worked except the top forward most starboard cylinder. I swapped the modules. problem moved to the bottom forward most starboard cylinder. So I assumed a module was going bad. Ordered two new aftermarket modules. Installed both. Still runs rough. Runs rough on both mags. Found a broken wire, this time it is the other red wire (One opposite the one I fixed previously which I erroneously called a trigger coil wire, I think it is actually a stator wire see attached). Fixed that. Problem persists.
Not sure where to go from here. Heavy maintenance manual? Where can I get a copy of that. I assume that I will need to test all my 4 pin connectors (old engine) and my coils. Not sure where to start on that I assume the manual.
Appreciate any help.
thanks,
