I'm curious if anyone knows if it's possible to lookup a 912is gearbox serial number using the engine serial number? I'm trying to confirm if an engine I'm buying has the updated gearbox with the oiling system. I found a post where the admin looked up this information for someone on here but it was never explained how to do it.

I used this configuration search but it doesn't show the serial number of the gearbox unfortunately. This is what it shows.
- Version 2 with clutch, i=2,43
- without vacuum pump drive
- without air guide baffle
- with screw connection UNF
- Fuel pump UNF
- without engine truss
- without exhaust system
- Standard

I called 2 distributors in the US 1 was busy teaching a class and the other told me they could not look up the serial on the gearbox. I ended up calling Rotec in Canada and he was able to supply me the serial number for the gearbox and its well after the 74,000 serial so I should be good to go on having the updated gearbox. Very nice gentleman though he wanted to make sure I know I should have been calling the distributors in the US first. I let him know I tried and he said well I guess you tried but there's a 3rd to call next time lol. He was very helpful and I'm glad to be done with the researching.

Hi Jared and all
The distributor is the only one who has access to that detail from Rotax. It is available to all the independent Service Centres however they must request it from their distributor. Simply dialing another country's distributor because you can't wait is not really advised, they are under no obligation to do it but as you noted they were trying to help you out. The iSC are not distributors and not at the same level of the country distributor. In most cases it may take a few days to get access to find that out for you.
The direct answer to your question is no, you can't get the gearbox serial from the engine serial. You have to make a request and they will supply it for you but a little patience is appreciated.
Cheers
