How can I get more rpm at full throttle

I did my first flight this weekend in my Zenith STOL 750 and am only getting 5400 RPM in the air. I've checked that I'm hitting the stops at full throttle so I wanted to know if propeller pitch is the only thing to adjust to increase that?

I had already set the pitch from 17 degrees to 16 degrees but it didn't have much effect (ground adjustable only), I could keep going but I presume there is some point at which the prop won't fly any more.

If you are 5400 rpm WOT at your average altitude then try and take out 1 degree more to get around 5600-5650 WOT.

If you are 5400 rpm WOT at your average altitude then try and take out 1 degree more to get around 5600-5650 WOT.

Thanks Roger, I will try that. I see from the Zenith list that a lot of people have their prop at 12-13 degrees and i am at 15 (not 16 as I said) so I think another degree or so should get me to 5600.

And I learned a new acronym, WOT :)

I never worry about what a company says. It just puts you in the ballpark. You may need some fine tuning. There were some companies that had you set up for only 5200 rpm at WOT. That's not good.
