Rotax RPM gauge and resistor

Hi. I changing engine instruments in my plane and I found that rotax standard RPM gauge is connected via resistor in line of RPM signal. Why someone put this resistor serial into rpm pickup? In rotax manual I can see that gauge is connected directly. Usually resistor in this place is used to avoid over measuring (if rpm signal and noise is to hight). But If oryginal gauge require this?

I put the new style flywheel on my engine to make starting easier. On the first takeoff with the new flywheel the rpm indications went crazy above 5000 rpm. I installed the resistor on the RPM gauge as suggested by Conrad Beale and the problem was solved.

Now works fine without resistor. Anyway I found that my rpm clock shows to low RPM. I had to tune it by internal screw.
