Re: Diagnosing Engine Seizure on Rotax 912UL

Well no matter the color, the jury is out on the starved bearing. I just wonder if the color was indicating an immanent failure. Engines are available, I will keep my ears open for a good deal for you, really hope your flying soon.

Whats the score with the oil tank, it doesn't look like a standard tank to me.

I'm not sure about the oil tank, it came with the airplane. I know Rotax used at least two styles of oil tanks on the 912's, the older ones like this one don't have a drain plug, and the newer ones that come with the engines now have a drain plug. As far as I know this is a standard Rotax oil reservoir but I'm not 100% sure.

Hi Roger,
I am not sure what year this engine was manufactured, I suspect it was made before Rotax came out with the 912 ULS engine since the nameplate just says 912 series. The serial number is 4005199, a photo of the engine data plate is attached.
Is it possible that the oil pump quit working or became air locked for some reason?
