Re: Would like to know the year my Rotax 912 ULS was built

Hi,
New member here, so please be gentle :)
I am in the process of purchasing a part built aircraft that has a Rotax 912ULS Engine No. # 4425533. Could you please let me know the year of manufacture.
Hope this isn't a silly question, but does the Calendar TBO start from year of Manufacture, or start of flying/running, i.e if the engine was purchased 4 years ago, but only be run up a couple of times, is it 4 years into the Calendar TBO ?
Thanks & Regards
BobD

Hi Robert,
4425533 was manufactured May 1999.
In a perfect situation the engine is purchased, installed and begins flying and then the Time in Service is how the calendar and hourly TBO would be calculated (starting with first flight).
But, having the engine sit for several years does throw in some variables; what are the storage conditions? on a dirt floor next to the gulf of New Mexico? Or is it inside a climate controlled building with the original desiccant bag and all the ports plugged? You can see the questions that are raised regarding storage.
Yes, your example of a 4 year old engine would be 4 years into its TBO.

Sept 2011.
All Rotax aircraft engines are made in Austria.
