My engine is 914 f with 700hrs since new,
the carburator are just overhaul with new tip viton and ajust by rotax machanic ,
my gear box was redone too and we found a washer in plastic (look) broke,
and still have my problem only when is cold
when hi start with full charge batterie soon the engine do the explosion the stater
seam like slip ,i start agsin and make couple turn and slip and like that for a couple turn and then start
its not a kick
some body have the same problem and fixe!
A couple of common things that may cause this. First the gearbox friction torque is too low. Normal seems to be 425 in/lbs to 485 in/lbs. Yours may vary from these numbers some, but this is what I see in my normal maint inspections. The second is poor carb setup. Idle set too high, too low, giving it throttle to start, poor sync, poor rebuild job, poor battery condition or wrong (too small) wiring size in the battery, starter and ignition circuit.

When you crank the engine during start up; if you experience that the engine kicks back (violent turning the other direction) and you can hear a sound from the starter as is has slipped, then you must replace the sprag clutch. I had this problem; carburator was OK, Propeller tork was OK, idle r/min was OK.
