912 Carburetor assembly

in 912 / 914 Technical Questions 13 years ago
Hi,All
Carburetor piston has two holes in the bottom. Which direction should they point after assembly?
Air filter or engine? Or does it matter?

    Hi Sakari

    I have just serviced two carbs today and I couldn't tell you off the top of my head, but it doesn't matter. They can only go in one way due to the ridges on the diaphragm. One ridge sits into a recess in the piston, another sits in a recess in the carb body.

    The carb diaphragm tab on the inside edge sits in a slot in the slide then the 4 screws are tightened. Then the outside edge of the diaphragm has a tab that goes in a slot in the carb body. This is what aligns the carb barrel.

    Everyone should download and print the manuals for the engine that you have. All these types of things are described in the appropriate manual. You should always read and have on hand the manual when doing a job and it is especially important if you don't have the specific training.

    There are also a new series of videos recently released that deal with the disassembly inspection and reassembly of the 4 stroke carburetors.
