Hi,
I am considering purchasing an aircraft with a 2005 912ULS engine, 400hrs, should I be put off by this fretting issue, and how can I check if that engine is likely to be affected. Its in the UK..
thanks
Dai
The 2005 912ULS engines were not usually in the group that had issues.
How many hours on it and is it hard to rotate the prop by hand after a shut down?
This wasn't a wide spread issue, but did happen to an unlucky few.
It's most likely just fine.

It appears I have the dreaded crankcase fretting in the 912ULS in my SkyRanger. It has 600 hours. I’m going to check the serial numbers to see if it was part of the problem batch.
It’s a shame, because it runs beautifully. It just spits out a quart of oil every 30 minutes!
What’s the most practical and economical fix? I think I already know the answer, and my wallet doesn’t like it!
That’s a lot of spitting. My fretted crankcase was cracked and making oil bubbles so I got the new crankcase. If the “spitting “ is out of the oil tank vent line, perhaps it is overfilled.
