Re: Rotax 912 ULS - Fretted CrankCase

Roger:
I don't mind filing the CSIR, but Lockwood told me that they contacted Rotax and that Rotax stated that they will not provide warranty assistance on this problem. Just to be clear, do you mean that if I file as you have directed, Rotax may still provide warranty assistance when they have told Lockwood that they will not?

ROTAX factory decides such matters on a case-by-case basis.
As Roger has noted, ROTAX is frequently very generous with 'out-of-warranty' support.

Submitted the CSIR with logbooks, oil analysis. I will post if Rotax provides some warranty on the engine. Thanks all for your help.

Hi Doug
Sorry to hear you have the same Fretting issue I experienced 3.5 years ago. Out of interest what was the serial number of your engine?
I hope you have some success with Rotax and their CSIR process. I would be interested in hearing your expereince regardless of the outcome. When I went through this process 3 years back I never even received acknowledgment of my issue or CSIR submission, however that maybe because I am on the the other side of the world with limited dealer support etc. Your US dealers seem a lot more active and helpful so all the best for getting a resolution.
I suspect that the resale of your engine in its current 'fretted' state will be very minimal due to the high repair cost. From memory the parts pricing alone was around $6-7k US.
All the best,
Jonathan

Just to clarify: Please read the CSIR webpage text and the "question and answers" http://www.rotax-owner.com/en/support-topmenu/csir-service-information-report
-the CSIR is for reporting a service issue and is a very important part of the aircraft QA system. The information is gathered and shared with the authorities and appropriate action is taken.
-You will not receive a reply unless more information is needed.
-It is not a warranty claim. you need to make a warranty claim with your local service center or distributor.
-It is not for technical support.
