The clearance is controlled by the housing not the plate.  Simply lap the plate down a bit and be sure that you are not getting carbon and other hard debris in the oil.  This type of wear suggests you have perhaps waited too long between oil changes for the type of oil you may be using.  While you have that off check to see if the rotors are not damaged (not likely).  Small wear marks like you have are somewhat normal and I would not worry too much as long as you do not see chips or metal debris.

Thats great thanks! The previous owner did not take good care of it and the oil was long overdue a change, I have actually done two oil and filter changes (cleaned the tank too) with only 3 hours between the two so it's well flushed out now.

The filters were both very clean upon inspection with maybe one small spec of metal in the oldest one and the newest 100% spotless.

I know you can't see detail in these small pictures but here they are! lol

Here is a tip on inspecting the filter.  Cut the mat out in about 2 to 3 sections.  Take each section with the pleats pushed together to make a bundle and wrap it in paper towels.  Now take them to a vice and clamp the bundle and squeeze out the oil into the paper towel.  

You are left with  sections you can take out and pull apart free of all the excess oil and easy to see.  Just pull apart and place it on some nice white paper, bingo easy to see shiny things.

Here's  another way to inspect the oil filter and it shows the tiniest contaminates. 

Cut out the filter medium, place this in something like a pickle jar, pour in about 1" of fuel, put the lid on and gently  shake the jar for about 30 seconds. This washes all contaminates off the filter medium where it can hide or blend in to make it very hard to see. Then take the lid off the jar, remove the filter medium and look at it. It should be perfectly clean. Now take a white paper towel and pour the fuel in the jar through the paper towel. If there is any contaminates in the fuel now matter color or size it will stand out like a red flag. Then if you want or your unsure what you see then you can run a magnet over the remains too.
