Have you noticed what your EGT does around this problem 3000rpm range,

Is it a duel or single carb engine and does it idle ok....and what are the idle RPMs,

How long have you operated this 503 Geoff....and has it ever ran ok,

Also have you checked the jets against the Rotax chart.

Hi Bill the temp was 26c humidity was 87% engine temp was about 800f.

Hi Nick it has duel carbys duel ignition the engine had done 890hrs when l got it l put 50hr cranck new piston and rings in it .
Its ran for 23.5 hrs since rebuild was running a bit lean so rebuilt carbys to rotax specs for my area
which was the same as what was removed .
It runs bit rough at idle 2000 ,it is smooth at 2600rpm then flat spot at 3000 rpm from then on perfect.
the temps at 3000 are about 800f full power 1050.
Would the carby slides be worn out after that many hrs.

Geoff,

Ideal temp and humidity for ice but I'm leaning toward Nick's suspicion. 800f seems a bit low for 3000RPM. What is the needle clip setting on the jet needle and what is your field altitude?

If you have a primer or if you have an enrichener (choke), set the RPMs at 3000 and give the carb a shot of fuel with the primer or choke. If it runs better, the jet needle may be set too lean. If it begins to die, It may be too rich.

What is your max. RPM temp?

needle clip is on second notch airfield hight is 360ft max rpm temps around 1050 to 1100
try thr choke at 3000 rpm and it run rough.
