You can set the timing with a protractor or a dial indicator. Both are accurate. If you have access to a dial indicator it is easier to use.
go to the California Power Systems website and click the tech info tab. Go to article #39, "timing the ducati ignition". It gives detailed instructions with illustrations on exactly how to do the timing and their numbers include the offset compensation for the slanted spark plugs. If you use the protractor method, you don't need the compensation. If you want to be sure of the numbers, you can set the angle with the dial indicator and double check it with the protractor. The numbers at CPS have worked for me. This info used to be available from Rotax, and probably still is somewhere, but I can't find it.
