We just removed a bottom sparkplug from our new 912iS. It has the new style plugs. The measured gap however was 0.022 inches. Should we try and adjust the gap to the specified 0.031-0.035? This was measured after the first engine run, so the engine started and ran fine. Or should we just "leave well enough alone"?
The service bulletin that introduces the new plug is ambiguous on gapping. It specifies that you need a wire type feeler gauge, graphically shows the required gap, but then also notes that the plugs come gapped and need no adjustment. And it seems that the plugs don’t come gapped to the spec in the bulletin (and service manual). I did find tech bulletins from both NGK and Denso saying NEVER gap a multi electrode spark plug. I guess that makes Roger right again! And my earlier post, well, let’s just say “not right”.
