I'm replacing the oil line between the oil pump input and the oil cooler in my 1991 Kitfox 912. The oil pump input has a 3/8" barb and the oil cooler has a 1/2 " barb. The line I took off was 1/2" hose. The previous owner used a hose clamp to compress the hose to fit. I'm not comfortable redoing that technique. I was thinking of using a 3/8" to 1/2" hose barb adapter with a short piece of 3/8" hose since this engine has 1,100+ hours running just fine with this setup. Any comments yea or nay?
Replacing the tiny bit is the thing to do.
But I cannot resist to ad that Bernoulli and Venturi suggest that the oil actually speeds up at the bottleneck.
I found a very similar installation on a fuel line where brute force was supposed to squeeze the connections tight. However, it did not work, surprise.
If I may ask, did you have any obvious fluctuation on your oil pressure or was it all normal?
