I fly a Eurofox glider tug. 912 ULS engine. Serial number 37212
When the engine reaches 2000hrs/15yrs. Will I be able to operate the aircraft :on condition:
This is one of those questions that you may personally have to wrestle with and may get differing opinions. Rotax would like you to do your TBO overhaul and it is in writing in the manuals. Budget approximately $13K. Personally I would just sell my engine and buy a new one. One of those issues you have to make a decision on..
The second opinion or option which is legal is to go on condition. My personal opinion which may differ from others is on condition. That is based on, allllllll maint. was done through the years, allllll documentation is up to par and not just those terrible 3 line logbook labels, alll SB's have been followed and the engine is inspected in full with a Rotax checklist so things weren't missed and owners didn't opt out of half the maint. Then the engine needs to be running like a top without any issues that someone thinks can be ignored because it didn't fall out of the sky yet.
Preventative maint. through the years is everything that makes going past TBO a good viable option.
Now you may hear from others on their opinions of TBO versus on condition.
Now it's your choice and decision.
p.s.
Just like in all walks of life there will always be the bottom 1% in work and work ethic and the top 10%. We all make that choice along the way and many times just a look tells you where that person falls.
