I just looked at the rotax si 912 16 r8 and it lists only aeroshell plus 4 oil as updated changes. I have been using amsoil motorcycle oil for many reasons but are they forcing everyone to go with rotax aeroshell for s-lsa 912 ? Any other reference/logoc to allow amsoil would be helpful. This must be a new requirement. .?????
For ROTAX to add AMSOIL to its approved lubricants list, AMSOIL would have to qualify their product to meet or exceed the ROTAX "RON 424" OEM specification.
(Not to be confused with the similarly-named RON international fuel standard "Research Octane Number").
Looking at the new rotax si more carefully i can see they have highly recommend it as THE OIL but since this is only recommended it is not a us regulatory requirement for the S-lsa to use the aeroshell plus 4 oil. In fact it looks like now without any quidence any one can use any type of oil. This does not make sense. I wouls expect some sort of common sense guidense. Anyone have any idea what is happening here.......
One major concern is the automotive oil manufactures can change the formulations without any warning. Sometimes the formulation changes do not work with our engines.
This has happened in 2002 with a resulting 3 in-flight engine failures and a FAA airworthiness directive (AD-02-21-16, now rescinded) As a result two oils were banned by rotax because they would not return to the oil tank properly. One of these oils was Motul 5100. its predecessor, Motul 3100, did not have this problem and it was our highest recommended oil.
Some other popular oils have changed the name of the product and the bottle color, does this mean the formulation has changed? How does Rotax get informed about this?
Aeroshell has guaranteed not to change the formula without consulting and testing with Rotax.
Rotax sells Aeroshell Sport as a to us for less than we can buy it direct from Houston TX so its not a money grab.
25 odd Australian Dollars (us$18) a litre here in Western Australia from the Shell distributor....Someone's making money. ( And that's by the case too)
What's a pallet worth out of Texas?....lol...
I pay about $11.50 per liter and that includes shipping to my door step. I think the additional cost for you is in shipping and possibly the dealer looking for an extra dollar or two.
