I would like feedback on the desirability (or not) of installing a backup mechanical oil pressure gauge. I have Dynon Skyview, so I will have the standard oil pressure sensor that will display on the EFIS. Following this forum there seems to be a fair number of problems with oil pressure sensors, and I'm wondering if it would makes sense to install a mechanical backup gauge? I have panel space for a small one. I would appreciate thoughts on this, including negatives.
I don't believe you need one. Many times here you only see owners post about problems looking for some help, but you never hear of the thousands and thousands that don't. If you have a Dynon Skyview you most likely have a nice setup. I personally think you're good to go and would sleep just fine without the second gauge. The huge majority don't have a secondary oil pressure backup and everything is just fine. rarely does a Rotax engine have a true oil pressure issue. 95% of the time it's the sender or a bad connection.
