I can understand where you are coming from, but even with the pressure cap on you still need an overflow bottle due to expanding coolant. I think you would need a big header tank to run with no pressure. I don't think using a 0.9 bar cap is any problem, and I suppose it would show up a leak before it gets too bad. I think if a hose came off in flight you would loose your coolant in seconds anyway as it is still being pumped around the engine.

Yeah, Mark, I missed noticing that. :( . You're right. The way it's currently configured you need SOME sort of pressure cap to hold the fluid in and let it into the overflow cup, not out the filler hole/cap on expansion. Too bad there isn't something like a 1 or 2 psi cap for this particular configuration, as it would be arguably a bit more "fail safe."

My Rotax 582 manual states that the purpose of a 0.9 bar cap is to minimize cavitation within the pump. The higher fluid pressure diminishes cavitation bubble formation inside the pump, keeping the fluid flowing. When cavitation bubbles form at the backs of pump blades, the blades aren’t moving fluid.
