New engine break-in

After running new engine per Rotax instructions several times at 3,500 RPM, I have one rocker arm (Cyl#1 intake valve) that is still not in spec. Other 7 arms are all firm. No visible damage to the disc under the rocker arm. Engine runs fine. Planning to call Lockwood to discuss options. Has anyone had this experience? Do I need to replace tappet or is there an option to run the engine again to pressurize the tappet?

    Hi Brent,

    You should have done an oil purge. After that check the rockers and if all is okay run the engine once. If after this run you have a rocker still soft do another oil purge. I turn the prop during the purge at least 100 times with a little speed and I can usually see 50+ psi on the oil pressure gauge and I do this after something like a rubber hose change.
    If it's a new engine I go above and beyond and repeat the purge at least 2 times before a start. I guess I'm a little paranoid. :dry: It never hurts to make sure and I have never had a soft rocker this way. If you have done two purges and still have a soft rocker call your distributor.

    Brent,

    I don't think I would run the engine to try to pump up that lifter. You could do some damage. You might try another manual purge. Sometimes it takes a lot of pulling on the prop to get the lifters all pumped up. I would call Lockwood in any case and see what they recommend, it does sound like you may have a stuck lifter.
