Hans the ones we use in the UK need a modification involving fitting a spring or drilling a hole and using locking wire to stop the knurled nut coming undone,
The one in your picture look different to the ones we have in the UK..I will try and take a picture of an old one I have,
I wonder if you know what microns the gauze is by any chance.

Paper filters can absorb water and freeze blocking fuel flow
