Agustin,
Not necessary at all. It is nice to have for that rare case of fuel pump failure or for priming the fuel system before starting. I have always had one for emergencies but have never used it. It is just a matter of personal choice. I compare it to a spare tire in your car. You don't need it at all, until one day you suddenly need it.
