Has anyone had a problem with oil temp jumping all over the scale? Lately on some flights mine will jump from 230 to 350 and back in just a few seconds. I know oil cannot change temp that fast so it has to be somewhere in the sending unit or wiring. I have cleaned everything and checked the wire going to the RDAC. Everything seems ok. When I pull power to land it goes back to normal.
I see this on a regular basis especially with the composite planes. My money lies on one of these.
The spade connector on the oil temp probe is loose and needs to be crimped down until it's snug.
The next thing I see a lot is a bad or loose ground wire for the system. Make sure all your ground wire attachments are tight. If they have a screw or nut remember this: They are hand tight, but wrench loose. Until you put a wrench or screwdriver on them they are considered loose. This has been very common. If the temp fluctuates with the throttle then go after the grounds. These probes are very sensitive to any resistance.
