Many thanks to all concerned,I guess a copper washer as suggested is well worth a try.

Colin, if you are flying an SLSA, your maintenance manual probably refers to the ROTAX manual for engine maintenance in which case you would be out of compliance if you put a washer under the mag plug. If you are ELSA or home built, no problem.
