Checking for Crankcase Cracks

Service Bulletin 912-029 specifies particular areas of concern to inspect for cracks in the crankcase. My question is, in order to inspect the lower right side of cylinder 4, is it necessary to remove the reduction gear?

Eric,

The SB-912-029 crack inspection is an external visual check only. It does not require any removal of engine components.

In section 4 of the Bulletin (figure 1), the dashed circle (4) indicating the area to inspect is to reference the general external area only, and does not indicate that the internal area is to be also checked.
