Thanks Roger. That's good advice. I'll glue the current pad and then replace it the next time I need to do a coolant flush, which is not for another 300 hours.
The rubber pad shouldn't wear out and may stay there a long time. The nice thing about applying the silicone is the pad never moves out of place. Even if it's a brand new pad with the loops adding a tad of silicone will keep it from moving or from tearing the loops. Just to be clear the silicone goes between the expansion tank and the pad. NOT between the pad and the crankcase.
