What happens if you turn the master off? Engine still runs, I know, because I ground tested it for a second. But is anything adverse happening to the engine with the master off? The purpose of my question is because if flying and ever smell something burning, I’d want to shut off the master to kill power to any wires that are burning. But is there anything to worry about with the engine after turning off the master in flight? Generator A continues to run it seems, powering the electronic ignition, so can you run the engine continuously with the master off?

Definitely not exactly what you're asking, but I posted a similar question a while back and got some great info. Might be worth reading while you're waiting for real answers here. :)

On the 912iS, once the engine is running all of the engine electric needs, including the fuel pumps, are powered by alternator A. Alternator B is then assigned to the airframe loads, unless alternator A fails, then the engines takes over alternator B and the airframe loads go uncharged.
If you turn off your master switch with the engine running the battery is disconnected from alternator B system. The engine won’t care because it’s running on the alternator A system, which is already isolated from the battery.

"airframe loads" = avionics, lights, servos, etc.

But if the Master is off, wouldn't there be no airframe loads since the Master being off would cut power to the avionics, lights, servos, etc?
Are there no adverse effects at all to running the engine with the Master off?
