James, a slight correction to your Mike Bush quote seems in order. If you listen closely to Mike's statements, he says "I don't care what the ABSOLUTE EGTs are..." The point he's making is that when leaning, you lean with reference to the peak EGT readings, not to some absolute temperature. Some people get super hung up on leaning to a specific EGT reading, due to some old wive's tales...
On the other hand, since Rotax doesn't provide for any mechanism for the pilot to lean or enriched the fuel mixture, that's kind of a moot point for us...
(Mike does, however, still teach folks to respect the redline limits for EGT, since those are based on the metalurgy of the exhaust system. Iconel exhaust systems generally have higher maximum EGT limits than regular stainless steel exhausts...)
