Engine block ground

Is running a heavy gauge ground cable to one of the 3 "lugs" on the "B" rectifier side the same as grounding the engine block?

    James, I stand to be corrected, but I don't think so. The ground needs to carry the entire starter motor current and that has to get transmitted by a cable connecting the engine block to the battery negative pole, or where that forms th e airframes ground. We are talking 4AWG or bigger wire.

    I am wondering myself where I might fasten the ground to the engine block. I thought of attaching it to an engine mount bolt, but I'm not sure that is ideal either. I'm going to look and see if there is an accessible bolt between the ring frame and engine block that might suit.

    You can put a ground wire under an engine mount against the firewall or use a screw and put one up on top of the #3 Cyl. There is usually a an open screw hole there that isn't being used/ More or less any solid place on the engine or mount frame. Put a little dielectric grease on it to help prevent and moisture corrosion and causing a poor ground.
