it should be in the same general area as the air filter so it senses the same pressure and temperature zone. We put ours in the NACA scoop right next to the filter.
You can discard the o-ring.
It should NOT be mounted so the probe is actually poking inside the filter as this defeats the ability of the ECU to detect a plugged filter due to ice or contamination (the ECU will detect the pressure difference and if you have a StockFlightSytems EMU it will alert you to this problem)

We used an anchor nut and screw to mount to the cowl because you want to un-screw it and plug it back into the harness for ground runs with cowl removed (otherwise you get a Lane A warning: AATPS fault)

I mounted mine by replacing the rear fuel rail cover bolt with a longer bolt and a half inch stand off. The sensor ends up about 1/8th inch from the air filter and is out of the engine cooling air flow.

AAPTS? Is that a rotax part? Didn't see one when I bought the engine.

It comes as part of the engine harness with the sensor wrapped in bubble wrap
