Don't know which sender you have, but you can go to the VDO catalogue at www.partsforaircraft.co.uk/downloads/vdocatalogue%20and%20TECH%20info.pdf and get resistance values for whatever sensor you have. Best way I've found to check them is to remove the sensor, use jumpers on the sender and ground, turn on the instrument, and dip the sender in boiling water. If you get a reading of 212f or 100c your sender is good.
