First Oil Analysis, anything to be of concern?

Dave, suggest you use Blackstone Labs in Ft. Wayne IN for your oil analysis in the future. They don’t toss out generalizations using words like “seems high” they list the data for each element just like a physician lab report would do on your blood draw so you can see the baseline vs. your blood- or in this case- engine oil.  If they see something suspect they call or email you and ask for additional data to gain perspective. They also don’t force you to consult forums for analysis advice, yes there’s a lot of experience here, but you’re paying for this oil analysis dadgummit.  They also won’t just tell you to consult with your engine manufacturer for anything suspect or out of tolerance, not that Rotax wouldn’t be the ultimate authority, they are, but Blackstone will provide professional analysis and recommendations for those elements that are suspect or out of tolerance. They will also call you 24/7 if they see something of immediate safety concern.

My 912iS with 165 hrs has been flagged for high iron at 105 ppm.

My oil filter and chip detector did not display any adverse amount of iron.

Keep us abreast of your findings and I'll do the same on this thread.

My 912 ULS has about 250 hours on it; I've had engine oil analyses done at 25 hour increments due to use of 100LL. Iron has typically ranged from 25-32 ppm. I used to have a IO-360 in a TurboDakota, and its iron ran 2-3 times as high as the Rotax; it had a similar number of hours on it. Typical one attached.

Well in this case the oil analysis was something to be co concerned over.  I just had to rebuild the gearbox and replace the gears.  It was sent to Lockwood.
