912 choke cables

It's better to leave choke and throttle cables longer out of their fitting because if you have to remove them the ends will be frayed and it won't go back through the hole. Then you'll have to replace the cable. I leave them longer and put a short piece of heat shrink over the end so they don't  fray. Then if I have to remove them out of their fitting it isn't frayed and if it is I have enough cable sticking out to cut and trim it. Then I never have to replace a cable.

Thanks, Sean.  Is the choke required (helpful) when the engine is "cold" (say first start of the day) even if the ambient temperature is not cold (say above 50 degrees F)?

Yes full choke, on first start of the day, no matter ambient temperature.

You may find that the choke on period, is shorter due to faster warm up, in hot weather (not that I think 50F/10C is anything but frigid).

As described, I go to partial (1 peg) choke as soon as "soft start" engine rpm increase kicks in 😈
