Starting procedure

There is no limit mention in operator manual for starting attemptes , I am using 914 F in Steeme S6T and on the 1st flight of the day it did not start in 3 to 4 attempts, while rest of the day it starts on 1st attempt. I use chock/ starting carburator briefly and observe pause 40 second between starting attemptes, engage the starter for 10 second with out intruption .

    After a 10 Second Crank, you are supposed to wait for 2 minutes before a retry.
    That seems excessive for the second attempt but may be justified for the 3rd or 4th.

    Your checklist is from an older Maintenance manual.
    The Newest Operators manual includes turning ON the Fuel Pumps after step #4. (Master ON)
    It is a good idea to run the pumps for 10-20 seconds before attempting the start.
    This allows time for the Fuel Bowls and hoses to refill.
    If it does not start after cranking for 5 seconds, try opening the throttle while still cranking.

    Fuel pump Check.
    Turn ON fuel pumps.
    Verify Fuel Pressure. (≈4psi)
    Turn OFF pumps
    If the fuel Pressure does not drop to ZERO within 2 seconds, your fuel return line is not functioning and is probably blocked.

    Yeah, something is not right mine has started almost instantly for nine years now. If everything is dialed in they start up fast.

    I'm sure that you aware of the following but I'll mention it in case: the throttle needs to be fully closed when using the choke/starting carb. I find that this is critical on my 912UL when the engine is fully cold.

    If it isn't something simple like that then you are into normal fault finding: spark, fuel, compression, etc.

    Do you use the choke for the first flight of the day in the summer also?

    I crank my engine for a few seconds, on the first start of the day, winter and summer, until I get some oil pressure, then pull the "choke" for an almost immediate start.
