Oil Temperature Sensor Location

I fly an AutoGyro Cavalon. Over the years, AutoGyro has moved the oil temperator sensor around. Some have it on the oil tank, some have it at the thermostat, mine has it at the oil pump (which I think is a typical Rotax location). My question is, where is it best to read the temp? At the pump, the oil has been drawn from the tank through the radiator (my understanding, but I could easily be wrong), which would be the coolest point. My oil temp is consistently at the bottom of the green (or lower). Is it best to see how well the oil is cooling? or how hot it's getting flowing through the system?

A related question, is there much of a spread between the inlet and exit temps?

Personally I would use the hotest spot rather than the coolest spot to monitor oil temps. As a matter of fact oil deteriorates faster the hotter it gets. Thus, one should watch out for high temps. Using a cold spot would be like cheating (yourself). That perhaps makes you feel safe although you are not. I suppose that Rotax has determined a suitable spot already. Use the one close to the oil pump (as standard) and you'll get values to talk about and compare.

It was designed and tested by Rotax at the pump. Their numbers are based on that location and when you fly. Why move it? It isn't subject to vibration and anywhere else gives you false readings when you compare them to the Operators manual. The original location does read it after it has gone through the cooler.
