Need advice I have just replace my old Rotax 912ULS 100 with a new engine 912ULS 100 with zero hours I also replace CHT gauge and installed a new coolant temperature gauge along with oil pressure and temperature gauges “Aviasport gauges”. On reading the new installation and operators manuals I noticed that Rotax don’t recommend the Evans waterless coolant anymore which I was using and replaced this with a 50/50 mix my engine dose now run a lot cooler, my problem is even after 15/20min’s run time at 2000 RPM my CHT and Coolant temperature only reach max 70C and not reaching the green arc. I’ve run the engine for about 90mins now but not flown, any suggestions, would I be ok to fly?
Hi Ray,
Your 70c (158F) at only 2000 rpm may be very normal especially during cooler weather. There is no minimum for CHT temps so don't worry about it. Once you go fly they may come on up and if they don't and you want them a little higher then apply a 2" wide piece of aluminum tape across your radiator. You can do this for the oil cooler to if those temps are too low.
p.s.
An open air engine like on a Trike tend to run cooler than a tightly cowled engine in an airplane.
